Still shaken by the loss of her mother, who died three years ago of cancer, the beautiful and sensitive Mary Bradford (Mischa Barton) cannot communicate with her father and stepmother. Oblivious to her emotional problems, they send her to a female boarding school. The reception of the new colleagues is great and it is installed in the room of the beautiful Paulie Oster (Piper Perabo) and Tory Moller (Jessica Paré), the first rebel and idealist and the other insecure and rich. In the eyes of others Paulie and Tory are good friends, but in reality they are lovers. Despite the initial astonishment, Mary, with her shy manner, wins their trust and becomes the couple's only confidant. While trying to adapt to the new environment, Mary sees her friends' difficulty in dealing with some of the relationship's stalemate, caused by their families' prejudice and their deep identity crises, especially when Paulie and Tory are caught in bed. Fearing a backlash from the family, Tory has a heterosexual relationship to calm her spirits. In addition to trying to convince herself that she is only Paulie's friend, she does not conform to this situation and will not measure consequences to have her back. It will be up to Mary to try to prevent something tragic from happening.
